Here we are, on one of those nights where arguing and fighting ensues PRIOR to eating (hanger, hanger indeed). BG’s was actually the SECOND restaurant into which we walked, the first of which we left after my loving wife stated, “I’m not eating here” in response to the menu she saw…great. When we arrived at BG’s we really had no idea what to expect. It seemed to clearly be a bar-first type of establishment. With that being the expectation (as well as pub food) BOI was I wrong! The food was perhaps TECHNICALLY pub food (since this is a bar and therefore the food they serve could be that). However the food was AMAZING! Not only that but it was not incredibly expensive (it was $50 for 4 of us to eat, including the appetizer; also my Crab Cake dinner cost less than $15). When the appetizer arrived (the deviled eggs) they were AWESOME! Just as we were finishing the app (impressive timing, too, considering I forgot to order the app until a few minutes after we ordered the entrees) the entrees arrived. The food came in a bit of a wave (I was the last to receive my entree though I didn’t have to wait an exponentially long time). My wife’s sushi stack was GREAT (we LOVE sushi and were still impressed, though I was very thankful I didn’t order this flame stack of spiciness!). My crab cakes themselves? WHOAH! These were the best crab cakes I have had in I don’t know how long (quite possibly my whole life) and yet they were the worst item on my plate (more of a commentary on how amazing my sides were and the excessive amount of remoulade present). The Southern Green Beans (of course with bacon and some sort of sauce on them) were CRAZY good and the homemade potato salad was so good it was unfair. The service was friendly, even if it did lack “wow” factor and prompt refills. However we were in this environment and the vibe of the place (despite being primarily an aforementioned bar and having that feel) is pretty cool…we are fans and if anyone else goes they are sure to be as well!
